.: Welcome to my new Moke site!

Previously you may have visited my site unusually titled Mini MokeIAN. This site has been designed to replace my previous disorganised and rather unusual site and formalise the look and feel, information and general site content for the use of Moke enthusiasts world wide. In addition, there is a natural focus on my 1978 Mini Moke Californian including it's restoration and various other interesting facts and figures.

I am aware that the images I use on this site are large and that I don't make use of thumbnails (too much work for a basic HTML page). This will no doubt cause slow rendering of some of the pages. Please be patient, my bandwidth is limited however it is definitely worth he wait.

.: About me and my Moke

I am situated in the city of Wollongong (NSW, Australia). My Moke is a 1978 Leyland Mini Moke Californian. I purchased this Moke from Canberra (NSW, Australia) for $1350AU in January 1998 (loaned the money from my parents) and nick-named it Rej based on the number plates at that time. It was powered by a 998cc A series motor which has since been replaced with a 1275cc A+ series unit. My Moke has just been put back on the road (Dec, 2008) after a ground up restoration. Many of the images and information on this restoration can be found on this site.

.: Restoration status...

Many have told me that I should have been an engineer. I have this habit of dismantling perfectly good things, and once I am convinced that I know how they work then I never seem interested in figuring out how to put them back together. That is the story of my life really, an Engineer at heart, but not by trade.

It started on one lazy weekend when my wife was out and I was on Uni break so there were no hidden pressures to utilise my free time to study and things at work were plodding along normally. Free time is my favourite pass time!

I started by taking a lot of pictures especially of the engine bay so that I knew where everything went come the time to re-assemble. The images on this site were taken over a period of 4 years which is the time it took to complete this restoration. The original shots below date back to 1998. The first is somewhat embarrassing however it is me back in 1998 going to my year 10 formal (still running the original 998cc engine).

Before:

This is my Moke in about 1998 prior to restoration. This was my main transport to and from school.

After:

This is the result of my restoration as at 22nd December 2008. Looks great doesn't it?

I am a visual learner. For the benefit of the viewers of this site I have included many photos of my restoration progress. Some of these images are quite large and because of this I have split the restoration section up into the following separate pages all of which can be navigated by using the links at the top of this site.

If you cannot see the site menu at the top of this page, then please click here. Chances are you have been linked to a page outside of the site frames page.
